About the Role

Rotherwood Recruitment is currently recruiting experienced Waking Night Support Workers to provide overnight support across a range of services, including homelessness, supported accommodation and respite services for children and adults.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a compassionate and reliable individual who is passionate about supporting vulnerable people and ensuring they receive safe, consistent care throughout the night.

The Role

As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will provide practical and emotional support to service users during overnight hours, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and comfort. You will be responsible for maintaining a calm environment, responding to any concerns or incidents, and completing accurate records to support continuity of care.

You may work with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health needs, learning disabilities, complex needs, challenging behaviours, or young people requiring additional support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overnight support to children and adults across residential and supported living services.
  • Ensure the safety, security and wellbeing of service users throughout the night.
  • Carry out regular checks and respond appropriately to any concerns or emergencies.
  • Provide emotional reassurance and practical support when required.
  • Support individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges or additional needs.
  • Follow individual support plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging situations using a calm and positive approach.
  • Complete accurate daily logs, incident reports and handover notes.
  • Promote independence, dignity and respect at all times.
  • Work alongside colleagues and external professionals to ensure consistent support.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience working within care, support work, homelessness or residential services.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable adults, children or young people.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during challenging situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable and flexible approach to working waking night shifts.
  • A caring, patient and resilient attitude.
